Beta (under development)

Dadra (form)

A light vocal form related to thumri; distinct from the tala of the same name.

Structure & performance

Usually set to the 6-matra Dadra tala (hence the shared name) or Kaharwa; sung with the flexible, bhava-led approach of the semi-classical world. Often performed alongside or after a thumri.

Relationship to raga, tala, tempo

Light ragas (Khamaj, Kafi, Pilu, Bhairavi); commonly the Dadra/Kaharwa tala; medium tempo. The form and the tala share a name but are different things.
