Lyrics
Pallavi
mahā gaṇapatiṃ manasā smarāmi
vasiṣṭha vāmadēvādi vandita
Samashti Charanam
mahā dēva sutaṃ guru guha nutaṃ
māra kōṭi prakāśaṃ śāntaṃ
mahā kāvya nāṭakādi priyaṃ
mūṣika vāhana mōdaka priyam
Meaning
The singer brings Ganapati to mind: Shiva’s son, honoured by sages and praised by Guruguha. Brilliant beauty and inward peace appear together. The final images make the portrait affectionate and tangible—great literary works, the mouse mount and the modaka sweet.
Musical context
This is a two-part kriti: the pallavi is followed by a samashti charanam, a combined concluding section. The words nāṭakādi, referring to drama and related arts, also carry the sound of the raga name Nata.
