Rama Nama Payasakke
A playful recipe turns Rama, Krishna and Vitthala’s names into payasa, sugar and ghee.
A bowl of payasa becomes a picture of devotion. Rama’s name is the sweet dish, Krishna’s name its sugar and Vitthala’s name the ghee: Purandara Dasa invites the listener to savour them together.

Meaning
The opening blends divine names as ingredients in a sweet. Grinding, preparing and cooking extend the comparison: detachment becomes the grinding stone, the heart the vessel, feeling part of the preparation and understanding the cook’s skill. The meal ends in delight and remembrance of Purandara Vitthala.
Everyday images, inward meaning
The humour is affectionate: even the satisfied response after eating belongs in the poem. An ordinary kitchen sequence makes devotion tangible without abandoning its inward purpose.
