Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma

An invitation to Lakshmi, pictured arriving with ringing anklets and bringing auspiciousness into the home.

Meaning

The singer welcomes Lakshmi as a mother, asking her to enter with ringing anklets and remain among devotees. Gold, light, sugar and ghee evoke overflowing plenty; the invitation also asks for auspiciousness and her presence in good people’s hearts. The final verse addresses her as the queen of Purandara Vitthala.

Musical settings

The same lyrics are sung in more than one raga. Sri and Madhyamavati settings have different melodic identities: choose the setting you are listening to or learning rather than exchanging their phrases.
