Meaning
Even a person with many accomplishments needs a guru to understand the truth, Tyagaraja says. The teacher is imagined as someone who clears a dense growth of inner distress and offers a remedy for the mind. Body, possessions and family relationships are subject to change and loss; instruction helps the disciple meet that knowledge without being overwhelmed. The song therefore praises guidance that brings clarity and compassion together.
