Meaning
Tyagaraja asks whether liberation can be attained without sincere devotion and an understanding of music. The charanam brings together breath, inner fire, pranava—the sacred syllable Om—and the seven svaras. It then invokes Shiva's delight in the veena. The song joins musical understanding to inner experience: sound is not only something performed and heard, but a focus of devotion and a means of contemplating the divine.
