Meaning

Krishna is praised for majestic movement, compassion and musical beauty. The prayer imagines him illuminating the realm of the seven svaras and delighting in the flute. Amid the flowing praise comes a direct request: protect me.

Musical context

The words sāmaja vara gamana evoke the dignified gait of an elephant. References to Sama Veda, svara and flute give this devotional portrait a distinctly musical focus.
