Meaning
Tyagaraja asks his mind whether knowledge of music without devotion can lead it along the right path. Gods and sages provide examples of music practised as worship. The final verse turns towards discernment: distinguishing right from wrong, recognising the world's deceptive attractions, and overcoming the inner enemies of character. The song therefore connects musical knowledge with the way a person lives, rather than treating accomplishment alone as spiritual fulfilment.
