Laghu

A tala anga counted with a clap followed by finger counts.

Laghu begins with a clap. Continue with finger counts until its jati's total is reached. Its symbol is I, often followed by the count, such as I4.

The five lengths

Tisra has 3 counts, chatusra 4, khanda 5, misra 7 and sankirna 9. The clap is already count 1; a seven-count laghu therefore needs six more counts.

Adi tala starts with a four-count laghu. Related: Jati · Kriya
